Position Title:  Sr. Utility Sales Manager

Description Summary:

 

The Sr. Utility Sales Manager - BESS will be responsible for driving sales and business development efforts for the company’s battery energy storage solutions within the utility sector. This role involves developing and maintaining relationships with utility companies, project developers, and other stakeholders, as well as identifying new business opportunities, crafting strategic sales plans, and leading negotiations to secure contracts. The ideal candidate will possess deep knowledge of energy storage technologies, utility-scale applications, and regulatory landscapes.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Business Development: Identify and pursue new sales opportunities within the utility market for battery energy storage systems. Develop strategies to penetrate new markets and grow existing accounts.
  • Customer Relationship Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers in utility companies, independent power producers (IPPs), and project developers. Act as the primary point of contact for utility-scale BESS projects.
  • Sales Planning: Develop and implement strategic sales plans to meet or exceed revenue and market share targets. Track and report on sales performance and market trends.
  • Contract Negotiation: Lead negotiations on commercial terms, pricing, and contracts to ensure profitable and successful project execution. Coordinate with legal and finance teams to finalize agreements.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical guidance and support to customers, helping them understand the benefits and functionalities of battery energy storage solutions. Collaborate with engineering teams to develop customized solutions that meet customer needs.
  • Market Analysis: Monitor and analyze market trends, customer needs, and competitor activities. Provide insights to the product development and marketing teams to enhance the company’s value proposition and market positioning.
  • Proposal Management: Develop and present detailed proposals, including financial models, project plans, and technical specifications. Ensure that proposals are aligned with customer requirements and company objectives.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams, including engineering, project management, and marketing, to ensure seamless project execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about regulations and policies affecting the utility energy storage market. Advise customers on compliance issues and advocate for favorable regulatory changes.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business, or a related field. An advanced degree (MBA or equivalent) is preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 5-10 years of experience in sales, business development, or account management within the utility or renewable energy sectors.
    • Proven track record of selling complex technical solutions, preferably in battery energy storage systems, renewable energy, or grid services.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of battery energy storage systems, grid integration, and utility-scale applications. Familiarity with energy markets, grid operations, and regulatory frameworks.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
    • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers and stakeholders.
    • Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Proficient in CRM software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Travel: Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with or within utility companies.
  • Understanding of energy storage business models and financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of regulatory policies and incentives for energy storage and renewable energy projects.
